    Hi all,

Please feel free to weigh in with your personal experiences / thoughts.

CT has proposed (once) in T nation forums (over a year ago) that his type 3 neurotype might need an A and B subtype.

What do you think, and why?

I personally believe that high coordination can exist in all types. Conversely, it can be absent in all but 1B’s.

There is also a gene (ACTN3) with alleles that code for wither fast twitch or slow twitch dominance. Given that, the nervous system would most likely differentiate along with muscle cells to create a 1B-like individual. This person would produce less-to-none cortisol during heavy lifting, as the ability to use the stretch reflex (along with having type IIx and IIc muscle fibers) would let them lift with proficiency after hardly any practice.

I am a Type 3 and I know for me I am heterogeneous for ACTN3.  Type 1b was also my second highest result in the neurotype test (type 2A was the lowest).  I always felt most of the Type 3 describes me, but I always hated endurance, high rep sets, and I love lifting heavy.  Also I am pretty explosive and I use the stretch reflex well.  I am a technique geek though and I prefer to do every rep with precision.

Type 3A – Fast Twitch fiber dominant

    Exercise preferences:

    1) Olympic lifts in the 50-70% range; rep range is 1-3

    2) compound movements (60-80%) in the 1-4 rep range. Paused reps especially useful

    1-3 exercises per workout

Type 3B – Slow Twitch fiber dominant

    Exercise preferences:

    1) Mobility Drills

    2) Lower-Intensity Steady State Cardio
